The Portal

A Rorschach Passage for The Witch's Ball
The idea

Projection-mapped Rorschach
The viewer completes the experience.

Guests walk through a long, draped corridor in the rug room. Projected onto the fabric are abstract, shifting forms, ambiguous shapes that never resolve into one fixed picture.

Each guest completes them differently, shaped by their own perception and mood. The ambiguity is deliberate: open enough that every viewer sees something of themselves, steered underneath so the themes land where we want them to.

Two people standing side by side look at the same projected form and take away different images, and both feel the space responded to them.

The recurring anchor & the journey

We will develop numerous visual anchors by exploring multiple motifs that will emerge from the imagery, each evoking its own theme wihout overtly stating it.

I

The Approach

Still recognizable as "their world," with subtle wrongness creeping in.

II

The Threshold

Full transformation — the drapery becomes alive. Interactivity peaks here.

III

The Emergence

The new world stabilizes; calmer, more luminous.

Tier 1

The Rorschach Portal

  • Abstract shapes drift and shift slowly on their own
  • Self-running and unattended, no operator needed
  • All-custom imagery, made for the show
  • Solid, low-risk real projection-mapped portal

Tier 2

The Living Portal

  • Projections become alive and responsive
  • Motion/body tracking triggers effects as guests pass
  • Forms smear, dissolve and reform; zones bloom with crowd density
  • One artist on site tuning live

Tier 3

The Immersive Threshold

  • Third projector plus dedicated generative system
  • Real-time imagery performed live in the space

Good to know

Single-night event. We load in the day before, run the show, and load out the day after. Everything is tested end-to-end before doors, with fallbacks built in so a failure degrades gracefully rather than going blank.

Add-ons available at any tier: camera-based silhouette personalization, a designed local soundscape, expanded drapery, or additional mapped zones elsewhere in the ball.
